This week, we take a departure from our normal territory and discuss the health aspects of a vegan diet. As you’ll hear on the show, some recent health issues for Bob prompted some pretty big changes in the way we eat—but the changes came with very positive results (including reversing a diagnosis of diabetes) and we thought we’d share some of how we did this with you on the show.
We’re joined by Vesanto Melina M.S., R.D., co-author of Becoming Vegan to talk about eating optimally as a vegan and to discuss the kinds of nutrients we need to live healthfully. After that, we also talk with Dreena Burton, author of Vive le Vegan about some ways to get healthier in your everyday cooking and baking. In addition, we discuss our experience over the last few months moving into a lower-fat, higher-whole food diet, and the positive changes that it has had for us.
We decided to do this show not only for those of you out there with health issues to work on, but for everyone. Though this is a departure from our normal territory, we hope you’ll all listen, because we want you all to be the healthiest, happiest vegans you can be—even those of you (like me) who think/thought you are eating pretty well anyway.
